Abstract
The authors focus on the transmission rating model for voice quality, as developed in the United States over the past two decades. The past, present, and future of this model are discussed. Some detail is provided about its current form, which has been agreed to recently by several standards bodies. They describe recent modifications that make it more accurate for digital networks, and suggest potential improvements
