Abstract :
The authors describe Southwestern Bell´s view of the technology evolution for the personal communications service (PCS) and the intelligent network (IN). They focus on the IN/PCS prototyping environment currently being established by Southwestern Bell to be used to examine both new technologies and services. The evolution of this prototyping environment is discussed starting from the currently deployed network and eventually evolving to Bellcore´s Advanced Intelligent Network (AIN) Release 1 architecture. The authors also present an initial set of personal communications service components which will be investigated
