Abstract
Advances in widespread, robust and inexpensive location and wireless communication technologies have resulted in an explosion of activities in the field of mobile services. Timely and relevant information enables informed decision-making and offers improvements for productivity, safety and security. One particular form of mobile service, known as mobile asset management systems (MAMS) has garnered significant interest from corporations desiring more efficient methods in managing their asset fleets. However, many still rely primarily on paper-based communications and tracking. The reliance on paperwork and data entry stands in the way of the maintenance staff´s primary function. In this research, we propose a system that was designed for tagging valuable assets or equipment, providing asset location information, auditing and triggering for service, and retrieving maintenance requirements and procedure based on data in ERP. The proposed system is expected not only to streamline the process of mobile asset management but also to ensure the asset management tasks are faithfully carried in a timely fashion.
