Abstract
In this paper a new statistic approach based on Cornish-Fisher expansion is introduced for efficient evaluation of positioning accuracy of GPS surveying activities. The proposed approach uses the concept of SEP (spherical error probable) to represent positioning accuracy, and employs a set of equations to estimate its potential observation characteristic. Within the utility context of GPS surveying, the positioning accuracy can be influenced by placing receivers on different points during a period of time. The problem is to determine best valuation in varied surveying sessions. Practical data are used to assess the performance of the proposed approaches.
