  • Abstract
The increase of various dispersed generations (DGs) such as wind and solar power in a power distribution system has been reported to increase the short-circuit current. The superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL), which has been continuously studied for the reduction of the circuit breaker´s power burden, is thought to be an effective method to solve the fault current problem due to the introduction of the DG. However, because the decrease of the fault current due to the introduction of the SFCL causes the protective devices in a power distribution system to deviate from their original setting values, the studies on the correction of the protective devices considering the application of an SFCL in a power distribution system linked by a DG are required to keep the protection coordination between the protective devices. In this paper, the correction methods of the protective devices for their protection coordination with consideration for the application of an SFCL in a power distribution system with a DG were studied through the short-circuit tests for the simulated power distribution system linked by a simulated DG. The deviation of the protective devices from the original setting values due to the application of the SFCL could be confirmed to be suppressed through the correction for the setting values of the protective devices.
