Canadian Manned and Unmanned Submersibles for Science

Many Canadian submersibles have been used for scientific research, usually on a contract or short term basis. The Pisces IV, a vehicle owned and operated by the Government of Canada, has been exclusively used as a scientific research submersible for more than a decade, carrying out operations for many diversified disciplines in marine science. These operations include bottom surveys, recoveries, observations and sampling to name but a few. The submersible has proven over the years to be an irreplaceable tool in the quest for knowledge of the ocean depths. Due to the ever-increasing demands and requirements of marine science, it is becoming evident that a remote operated vehicle could also contribute much to efforts in research. In response to this need, a ROV (HYSUB 5000) is joining Pisces IV to broaden the capabilities of the ocean scientist.
