Abstract
This study implemented and evaluated a new general purpose technique based on a dual scan to correct SPECT images for patient motion. The performance of this method for motion simulated on patient SPECT images of the heart, liver and bones was compared with the summed lD correlation method and was found to result in superior corrections. Statistical analysis using mean square errors as a quantitative index showed significant differences between the images with simulated motion and the images after correction. Further, the mean square errors were smaller for motion corrected images obtained using the dual scan technique
