Summary form only given. High-resolution spectrum of the fifth overtone (6/spl nu//sub CH/) benzene (C/sub 6/H/sub 6/) in the gas phase was probed by cavity ringdown spectroscopy, using a pulsed dye laser in the 16500 cm/sup -1/ region.
