  • Abstract
Alcohol is estimated to be the major factor of vehicle-related deaths in many counties. Setting-up random checking points with breathalyzer by police departments has several drawbacks: traffic interruption; time consuming; costly; only selected vehicles can be tested; human interaction required. In this paper, a new method based on TDLAS (Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy) for remote detection of alcohol concentration in vehicle has been promoted. The theory of TDLAS has been given, and the alcohol concentration in vehicle has been analyzed and estimated. The result shows that TDLAS technique can be applied in remote detection of alcohol concentration in vehicle, which will evidently eliminates the drawbacks of checking points using breathalyzer.
