Abstract :
Summary form only given. Thin film opal-like packages of 200-300 nm PMMA balls, containing 20-40 ball layers, have been prepared on glass substrates. The crystallinity of these photonic crystals was proven by observation of diffraction satellites surrounding the main Bragg resonance. The dispersion of the stop-band was traced by angle-resolved reflectance spectroscopy. The switching between different branches of dispersion curves was observed and modelled by band structure and reflectance calculations. Electron beam lithography has been used to pattern the PMMA opal.
