Abstract
Summary form only given. Light emission from 3-dimensional photonic crystals appears highly modified as compared with the free space emission. Generally, the reason for this change is the suppression of the emission probability due to the reduced density of photonic states within a photonic bandgap (PBG). Another source is the frequency-dependent variation of the dispersion for electromagnetic waves generated in photonic crystals with frequencies near the PBG.
