Abstract
In the digital multimedia, the audio and video decoders usually use a global bus and a traffic controller to transfer data in order to reduce the hardware complexity. We developed an instantaneous sub-picture decoder architecture for the DVD system to reduce the data transfer traffic on the global bus. Using two different FIFOs and a simple state machine controller, the registers in which the contents of commands are stored can be significantly reduced. For continuous display, an easy synchronization is used in the instantaneous sub-picture decoder by comparing to the video presentation time (PTM)
