In many parts of the world, the advent of electric utility de-regulation will drive fundamental changes in the design, operation, and planning of distribution networks. Distribution network planning will be much more business-oriented, and profitability will be the emphasis in all investments and operating decisions. To improve system profitability, a variety of new technologies will be considered related to information systems, automation, power electronics, and distributed generation
