Abstract :
The capacity of Switched Local Area Networks (Switched LANs) is an important parameter for managing their performance. But, there do not seem to be a formal method, or methods, available, for determining this parameter. This paper reports the development of a formal method for determining the capacity of switched LANs. The practical utility of the formula was demonstrated with a real LAN installation.
