Abstract
Summary form only given. This paper reports for the first time on the fabrication of low insertion loss wavelength-insensitive fused tapered 1×N couplers using a technique simpler than any previously reported. The couplers are assembled by surrounding the throughput fiber with six output fibers. The fibers are then drawn in the same manner as a conventional 1×2 coupler.
