Abstract
Todays´ challenging marketplace requires that corporations bring products to market “faster”, “better” and “cheaper”. Concurrent engineering practices are being used to rapidly prototype, validate and deploy new designs. Such approaches have been facilitated by advances in hardware and software technologies. As control systems design tools exploit the benefits of technology developments, the role of the control systems engineer is rapidly expanding. This paper analyzes the trends in today´s industry, the roles a control engineer plays and a brief analysis of the different phases involved in today´s control systems design
