Abstract
The present paper aims to describe the improvement process of the quality of the product and the technical service that has been undertaken by the UTE electric utility (Uruguay) since 1990 and to show the obtained results so far as well as the actions foreseen in the future. It develops the institutional framework and the countrywide context in which the activity of UTE is developed. The current situation and the improvement for Montevideo, capital city of Uruguay, are described. Finally, the paper contains a brief description of the plans and actions that UTE is developing in facing the changes to the environment that the approval of the regulative frame for electric utilities could produce
