Abstract :
In this paper we develop a dynamical input/output model of a gas tungsten arc welding process for H-control design. The model is linear time invariant and is based on the heat conduction in weldment. Its impulse response is an infinite sum of infinite dimensional terms. The infinite sum due to the finite thickness of weldment is truncated, and the sum of infinite dimensional terms after truncation is approximated by a finite dimensional system. The controller is designed for this new model, and its performance is tested using the original model
