Abstract :
In electrical distribution system planning, careful scrutiny of design assumptions, and philosophies, when combined with the use of modern computer aided design tools, can result in significant improvements in operational costs and levels of security. Furthermore the corresponding increase in operational reliability as well the ease of operation and maintenance will result in additional tangible benefits. This paper presents the results of a planning approach that looks at both investment and operational costs. The application of this newly devised methodology, has incorporated a loss minimisation algorithm with commercially available load flow, fault analysis and spreadsheet programs
