Abstract :
A laser optical wavelength refractometer, based on a Michelson interferometer, is used for gas density determination of air as needed for buoyancy corrections in precision weighings. Comparisons are made with other gas density methods, for example the weighing of sinkers. A laser interferometer with an increased optical path resolution of /spl lambda//400 at 633 nm is employed to monitor density changes at the 10/sup 5/ level.
