Abstract :
Summary form only given. In this paper the authors describe a Pr/sup 3+/-doped fluoride glass suitable for a 589 nm fibre laser. They show that due to its high stability the Pr/sup 3+/-doped fluoride glass is relatively easy to fabricate into optical fibres, and therefore offers the possibility of a 589 nm fibre laser.
