  • Abstract
The virtual environment (VE) industry is quickly shifting from a system hardware and software development focus toward the development of applications. The development of useful and affordable VE applications is crucial to the establishment of a robust VE industry. VE companies have learned that to develop useful applications, it is as important to supply expertise in the use of this equipment as it is to supply the equipment itself. This is evidenced by the recent proliferation of companies offering assistance in the design of virtual worlds and the content required for high-quality applications. These design studios can increase the accessibility of VE technology to potential users, helping to expand the market and lower the cost for VE applications
