Abstract
The root cause of the instability is identified for the explicit time-domain method that uses a time step beyond that allowed by the stability criterion. With the identification of the root cause, an unconditionally stable method is successfully developed in the framework of explicit time-domain finite-element methods, and hence removing a major computational bottleneck.
