Abstract
This paper presents the method for calculating the differential inductances of a tubular linear permanent magnet (PM) actuator as a function of armature or mover position by the finite element (FE) method. The magnetic saliencies due to both the machine structure and magnetic saturation and the end effects are included in the inductance profile.
