Abstract :
Device-free human presence (DFHP) detection is a technique in which a human does not need to carry any form of wireless transceiver to be detected. The technique is mainly applicable to `RF sensor network´ which refers to a wireless network that is the sensor itself, using radio frequency (RF) signals to probe the environment. The human presence detection method explained in this paper can be easily incorporated into low processing power devices, in order to quantify the presence or absence of a human subject from the received signal strength indicator´s (RSSI) data. The verification results confirm higher accuracy of the proposed method compared to the most widely used presence detection technology, such as passive infrared. The method improves interactions in smart homes, by enabling high level of sensorial intelligence and very low installation costs.
