Abstract :
The authors studied the effects of humidity and temperature on the head wear on thin film magnetic disk, with regards to the lubricant mobility. Results showed that the head wear decreases with increasing humidity as a result of increasing lubricant mobility while head wear increases with increasing temperature as a result of increasing lubricant mobility. Contradicting with the belief that the higher the lubricant mobility, the lower the head wear, the latter result might be caused by the lubricant characteristics other than mobility, carbon overcoat property, or head deformation. Bonded lubricant characteristic would be the reason of the head wear increase with the increasing temperature.
