Abstract :
This paper studies the slider-lube interactions under various conditions. The relative amount of lubricant transfer is used as a indicator to characterize the intensity of such interactions. Femto sliders of about 3.5nm flying height with different trailing pad size are used for investigating the relationship between pad side and lubricant transferring. It is found that pad size plays an important role in lubricant transferring. The smaller the effective length and width of the trailing pad, the lower the lubricant transfer due to slider-lubricant interaction. Lubricant transferring under different electrical potential difference between slider and disk surface is also investigated. Results suggested that increased electrical potential difference leads to increase lubricant transferring and slider-lube interaction.
