Abstract :
High Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) and high sidelobes are inherent problems of an OFDM signal. They need to be treated with compatible solutions. This paper proposes optimum Selective Mapping (SLM) for a joint PAPR and sidelobe power reduction, in which candidate phase sequences are constructed in a parametric phasing scheme to provide independent alternative time signals as well as independent alternative frequency sidelobes. Maximum reductions are obtained for both sidelobe and PAPR for respective number of candidates. Despite a large number of candidate phase sequences are employed, computational efficiency can be achieved using a serial search optimization process with the partial-IFFT algorithm. The parametric phasing shared for both PAPR and sidelobe power reduction allows the side information to be embedded in all transmission symbols, hence either maximum likelihood detection (MLD) or pilot assisted detection (PAD) can be used for reception.
