Abstract
Summary form only given. Due to an increasing peak power available from solid-state laser systems and growing number of applications of such radiation sources, there is a great demand for a means of laser pulses transport from the source to the interaction place. Waveguides were used for Er:YAG radiation delivery in dentistry (removal of hard tissues), in ophthalmology (laser ablation of human sclera and iris), and in cardiology (for transmyocardial laser revascularization). Also waveguides were used for Nd:YAG radiation delivery in the ophthalmology (for secondary cataract treatment).
