The authors discuss the precepts of life-cycle costing that they believe are integral to the successful management of items and systems that have a service life cycle. They discuss life-cycle cost as a useful, necessary, and mandated decision criterion. The need for a unified approach to the application of life-cycle cost management in a long-term view of successful acquisition is stressed
