Abstract :
Magnetic resonance imagery and computed tomography (MRI/CT) scan is realized as a powerful technology for mapping soft tissue sections for diagnosis of internal human body parts since decades. These `maps´ give different biomedical and anatomical information for early diagnosis of any disease. In the current work MRI scan data is utilized for building up of computer aided design (CAD) model for amputee´s artificial limb socket. The method utilizes the information stored in DICOM images obtained after MRI scan and processing its bitmap image counterpart, to generate section cloud data. These cloud data are piled up together to build volume cloud. The method uses reverse engineering (RE) technique to develop a CAD surface model which involves data filtering, segmentation, curves processing and surface development. The CAD model may be utilized for making precise positive mould for prosthetic limb socket manufacturing. It also finds its application in modern biomechanical simulation, virtual surgery, telemedical information systems and computer assisted documentation and education.
