Abstract
Summary form only given. Sum-frequency generation (SFG) is a powerful nonlinear optical technique for investigation of molecules on surfaces and interfaces. In SFG studies, the pulsed tuneable IR laser beam is mixed, at an interface, with a visible beam to produce a SFG signal. In the benzenesulfinate adsorption on Au SFG spectra the shift of the SO/sub 2/ peak was observed, which indicates a bidentate adsorption mode.
