Abstract
Partial discharge location in power transformers has been investigated by carrying out simulation on a representative model winding. The transformer model winding for analysing simulated partial discharges is represented to consist of sections having series inductances, mutual inductances between sections, series capacitance across section and shunt capacitances between terminals of section to ground. The investigation have shown that PD location accuracies using travelling wave method are good for windings having `alpha´ (alpha) values equal to or grater than 12. For low ´alpha´ value windings (in range 4 to 8), use of suitable filters along with pulse integrators has shown improvements in PD location accuracies for length of winding upto 25% from end terminals of winding.
