Abstract :
This paper investigates the dynamics of the nonlinear closed-loop adaptive scheme proposed by Byrnes and Willems (1984) using a detailed series expansion solution of the special case of closed loop dynamics in R3 projected onto R2. It is demonstrated that the series expansion approach can be used to explicitly calculate initial conditions where the adaptive controllers converge to destabilizing limit gains
