Abstract
IEEE 802.16 network has quickly been deployed in worldwide in recent years. However the signal transmitted by the Base Station is susceptible to shadows of buildings, therefore resulting in a poor signal quality received by Mobile Station. For this reason, IEEE 802.16j intends to improve the above mentioned network problems incurred from IEEE 802.16 through relay station. This allow IEEE 802.16j network become more suitable for metropolitan use. In IEEE 802.16j standards, transaction binary exponential backoff (TBEB) scheme is adopted for use with bandwidth request scheme. However, TBEB scheme does not support priority data transmission, hence TBEB scheme unable to permit faster and successful transmission for high priority data than low priority data. Therefore, this paper will propose a bandwidth request scheme that supports priority, and this scheme will allow data with high priority with more opportunities to transmit bandwidth request, in order to increase successful transmission rate. Afterwards we will use simulation to prove that data with high priority in using this scheme will receive better results in average contention times, average delay time, and throughput than those of TBEB scheme.
