  • Abstract
This paper presents a low-power active RFID tag in UHF band. The tag introduces an additional co-processing digital circuit into the traditional microcontroller based active RFID tag. It consists of an ultra low power microcontroller, a co-processing digital circuit implemented on CPLD, a low power RF transceiver, micro-strip antenna and an on-board battery. The paper chooses MSP430F149, EPM240T100, Si4420 realizing the hardware, and carries out experiment to certify the tag´s function and power consumption performance. Experimental results show that, the new structure can reduce the microcontroller power consumption obviously, thus, can reduce the whole system energy consumption in the multi-tags conditions. However, because of the high power consumption of CPLD, the power consumption results of this implemented tag are not satisfactory.
