Abstract :
Summary form only given. Reports what is believed to be the first 90/spl deg/ phase-matched second-harmonic generation (SHG) of CO/sub 2/ laser radiation in the 9.2714-10.5910 /spl mu/m range. We achieved this result by temperature tuning of a CdGe(As/sub 1-x/P/sub x/)/sub 2/ crystal with a P/sub 2/ molar concentration of x=0 241/spl plusmn/0 002. A type-2 (/spl theta/=90/spl deg/, /spl phi/=90/spl deg/) cut CdGe(As/sub 1-x/P/sub x/)/sub 2/ crystal used in the experiment had dimensions of 5/spl times/5/spl times/7 mm/sup 3/. The crystal is transparent from 17 to 18.1 /spl mu/m with a small dip around 14.3 /spl mu/m corresponding to the two-phonon cutoff in CdGeP/sub 2/ at 13.5 /spl mu/m. Using the TEA CO/sub 2/ laser tuned to 10.2466 and 10.5910 /spl mu/m, we first measured the phase-matching angles and acceptance angles of this composite crystal.
