Abstract :
Summary form only given. Stimulated Raman scattering in solid-state crystals is a powerful technique that enables one to shift the radiation frequency and efficiently generate one or more new lines, which are separated by a Raman frequency /spl Delta/v. Raman gain is one of the important parameters that determine the usability of Raman-active crystals in laser systems. In our experiment, we investigated and compared stimulated Raman scattering of picosecond laser pulses in three crystals - commonly used CaCO/sub 3/ (length 20 mm) and KGd(WO/sub 4/)/sub 2/ (length 40 mm) and in a new tungstate crystal BaWO/sub 4/ (length 33 mm).
