Abstract :
Chemiluminescence, i.e. the emission of light as a result of a chemical reaction, offers interesting opportunities for developing point-of-care biosensors. However, commercially available systems are expensive and bulky, primarily aimed at laboratory usage. The goal of this work is to present the design and experimental validation of a point-of-care device for proteomics measurements on human serum. The system has been developed for cost-sensitive applications using only Low Cost off-the-shelf components. The system was tested on blood serum, resulting in output signal from spots with specific proteins up-take two order of magnitudes higher than that from control spots: the measured signal was 14 mV/s ± 3 mV/s on the detection spots, while it was only 260 ¿V/s and 242 ¿V/s on the control spots.
