  • Abstract
A novel method, termed the integer periodic extension (IPE) method, is proposed to increase the frequency resolution and reduce spectral leakage of spectra for power system harmonics measurement. Power harmonics measurement always conflicts with dynamically unstable load variation. It devalues the measurement process. Based on the proposed method, a high performance microcomputer-based instrument system is designed and implemented to measure power system harmonics using data windows functions and fast Fourier transforms (FFT). The proposed method simplifies measurement process and increases measurement accuracy. Case study from practical demand-side power system are demonstrated with improved performance. The measurement results the padding zeros method and the proposed IPE method are compared and discussed
