Abstract
A new broadband microstrip patch antenna is introduced. The patch has a circular shape and is loaded by two shorting pins with a certain angular separation. The dominant cavity modes of the patch antenna are studied using a developed rigorous theory. It is found that the first three dominant modes of the loaded patch can act as good radiators with distinct resonant frequencies. Depending on the location of the feeding probe, broadband or dual band operation can be achieved with BW higher than 23% in the broadband operation.
