Abstract
The paper discusses about the current and key problems on water supply and sanitation in Mongolia.It presents issues about the, (1.) Lack of legal framework and institutional structure on water governance and sanitation sector. (2.) Need of integrated water resource management namely integrated river basin management. (3.) No consolidated national data base for water and sanitation provision. (4.) Disparities access to water and sanitation provision in urban and rural areas. (5.) Water and soil contamination are caused by inappropriate waste management. (6.)Health outcomes including morbidity, disability, mortality and well-being caused by communicable and noncommunicable diseases related to poor water supply, sanitation and hygiene practice are still main issues of public health. (7.) Lack of education and traditional customs on protection of water resources and appropriate use water and sanitation facilities and hygienic behaviour. (8.) Low public participation on sustainable use of water sources.
