Abstract :
High speed networks provide new challenges for network management and control systems. An integrated approach seems to offer the best solution. New operating system technology is emerging that will support this approach. A fully implemented distributed shared memory server and experimental OS primitives supporting distributed object computing form the basis of a call object control and management system design. An example using alarm management in a network of ATM switches illustrates one advantage of this approach
