Abstract :
We consider techniques for carrier-phase and symbol-timing synchronization for the 8D-4P2C (8 dimensions, 4 pulses and 2 carriers) signal. A computer simulation is used to estimate BER performance of the scheme for non-ideal carrier phase and symbol-timing estimation caused by thermal noise and modulation pattern jitter. With perfect synchronization the 8D-4P2C signaling provides a power gain of 5.35 dB at the bit error probability Pbe=10-5, as compared to 16-QAM signal. The degradation due to synchronization errors is of the order of 2 dB for 3 degrees of phase error and 0.05 T error in symbol timing. This is accomplished for spectral efficiency of 3 bits/s/Hz
