Abstract :
An array of eight microphones has been built into a prototype bezel surrounding a computer display screen, and the signals have been combined to form a spacial sensitivity pattern. A small number of utterances, along with additive acoustic noise, served as the input to an isolated word recognition system. The same data, but selected from a single microphone, served as an alternative input and was found to lead to lower recognition accuracy
