  • Abstract
Recently, a new method to generate chirped DFB gratings by bent waveguides for increasing tunability of DBR lasers was proposed. Here we apply “Chirped DBR gratings” to improve and tailor specific properties. Our method to generate chirped DBR gratings is based on bent waveguides superimposed on homogeneous DBR grating fields. The method provides continuous and arbitrary chirping functions by choosing appropriate bending functions of the optical waveguides. Bent waveguide DBR lasers can be fabricated for the same production costs as lasers with straight waveguides, since only some masks have to be replaced. The purpose of this paper is to report recent results on theoretical modeling of new design chirped DBR grating lasers
