Abstract :
In this paper a new algorithm for median-type filters, based on the median cost function, and a new VLSI-suitable hardware implementation are presented. Also, a more intuitive approach to the median cost function is presented. The proposed hardware structure reduces the hardware requirements and has a faster processing speed. It also allows efficient implementations of parallel median algorithms.
