Abstract :
The author presents a method of implementing decision feedback equalization (or precoding) over a channel with intersymbol interference (ISI) when the input is a multiplexed version of several parallel input signals. The resultant scheme is a combination of prefiltering and postfiltering and scalar decision feedback equalization of a few of the input signals. As an interesting consequence of this technique, it is demonstrated how codes designed for the 1-D channel, in conjunction with codes for the ISI-free channel, can be used over the 1+ D channel
