Abstract :
Phase equalization is performed keeping in mind that distortion-less transmission occurs in systems having rectangular magnitude with linear phase response. However, in the real world, the linear phase requirement is often too strong. It is expectable that larger phase error can be tolerated in frequency regions corresponding to higher attenuations. Therefore, setting the appropriate requirements to the phase response is a rather difficult problem which is rarely addressed in literature. In this paper, we analyze this problem from the time-domain point of view. Furthermore, we present a method for time-domain synthesis of IIR all-pass equalizers.
