Abstract :
Both China and Japan have great influence on the Asia-Pacific and even the world economy. China´s development is obvious to all. Chinese construction industry has made significant achievements in recent years. As one of the developed countries, Japan has been stagnating for several years. After decade years of decline, the Japanese construction industry recovered in 2008 and accelerated slightly from 2009. The International Advanced Index is introduced to measure the international performance of Japanese and Chinese construction industry. In addition, a comparative research study design is adopted to explore the difference between the Japanese and Chinese construction industries. Besides the Width Index, the other indexes in the International Advanced Index of Chinese construction industry are higher than the Japanese construction industry. The Chinese construction industry has been catching up to the Japanese construction industry in the global market. Future research on the industrial competitiveness is needed.
